July 2011

Sam, who has been managing the refurbishment project at Wellesley House in Leicester, on Tuesday 12th July witnessed an elderly woman fall to the ground after apparently being mugged. Sam gave chase and caught the suspect, keeping him in an arm-lock until the police arrived 10 minutes later.
"It was a spur of the moment thing and I just acted on instinct," he said. "She asked if she could go home but I told her she should wait for the police to get there," he said. "She was so shaken up." Sam convinced the victim, who is in her 80’s, to wait until help arrived.
Sam has been to visit her in hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
A 31-year-old man has appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court.
Sam's heroic act was photographed by an eyewitness and the image was published on the front page of the Mercury on Wednesday.
"I would do it again and I hope there are other people who would do the same for somebody in my family."
